Moonlighters Tax Prep
Yearly Client Letter
Dear Tax Client,
Tax season is quickly approaching. Some quick updates.

Verify you come prepare with current information to your appointment. Review the checklist on the website.
All fees must be paid prior to return(s) being e-filed.
Payments accepted: Apply Pay, Venmo, Credit Card, and we always accept cash.
I would prefer it if checks were only used as a last resort.

The Big Beautiful Bill – New documents you may need:
-
Brand New vehicle purchases will require a statement from the bank showing interest paid. Not all vehicles qualify.
-
Overtime wages- If your company does not provide details of your income, we will need your last paystub for 2025.
-
Tip Income- has new deduction in 2025
-
Senior deduction for 65 and older – 6000 per person phases out with income limits.

Using Venmo?:
The IRS has released some new details on payments received. If you are receiving income through Venmo, Cash App, PayPal etc, a 1099-K will be issued if receipt of income exceeds $20,000 and you have more than 200 separate transactions in the calendar year. Personal (friends & family) payments are excluded. Some states have lower reporting thresholds:
-
Maryland (MD): ≥ $600
-
Massachusetts (MA): ≥ $600
-
Vermont (VT): ≥ $600
-
Virginia (VA): ≥ $600
-
Illinois (IL): > $1,000 and 4+ separate transactions

Drop box in front of my house:
To make it easy to drop your return.
Please remember to include your current phone number and email address. We often have issues with not being able to reach a client after they drop the return, and we do not want to cause you any delays.
Drop offs do not require an appointment time.

Secure online drop box service:
Unable to physically get to us, contact us and we can create a secure link for you to upload your documents.
In-seat appointments:
The calendar link for scheduling is available.
We have a new scheduling system, that will allow you to send text or email reminders.
Feel free to make an appointment.
Tammy’s appointment slots may be reduced due to work constraints this year at her day job. If possible, please consider dropping for prep. At the beginning of the month appointment times could be extremely limited. Drop off returns will be processed a bit quicker than having to wait for the next appointment. Once appointments are full that will be the only option.

Late filers:
Additional fee of $50.
Anyone who is not scheduled prior to April 1st will receive this additional fee.
The fee only applies to those who are not on the calendar as of April 1st, no penalty for April appointments scheduled prior to April 1st.

We are finding ourselves struggling in the last couple days of tax season to handle the overwhelming number of returns to prep. I know that some of you are snowbirds, and I can understand the late arrivals, but we only have so many hours in the last week of the season to complete returns.

We need to reduce the number of last-minute returns, to take some stress off our plates and reduce the likelihood of your return not getting filed timely.

Unprepared Returns:
Arriving with receipts that need to added during appointment will have an additional charge of $50.
Come prepared with a summary of your expenses, it does not need to be fancy just totals.
If you have questions on what expenses you can use on your return, please contact me for guidance.

Arriving without social security numbers and birthdates for dependents will also incur an additional charge.

City Returns:
Additional $20 per city filing.

State Returns:
One state is included with a federal return; Additional states will be charged $20 each.

If you prefer calling, use the office number listed towards the end of this letter instead of my cell phone number.

Things to bring with:
If you have marketplace insurance, please provide the documents provided each year for this insurance (1095-A). I have had so many people fail to provide this document and it can affect your taxes. The IRS catches that document is missing all the time.
The IRS is requiring us to document divorced clients with children. Please make sure
to bring proof that children reside with you more than 50% of the time or bring the release from the custodial parent for claiming the exemption. If you do not have a child, the majority of the time and don’t have form 8332 we cannot file the return.
Earned Income dependents need to prove they are living in your household. This can be school records with an address, medical bills, daycare bills, etc.
W-2’s, unemployment
1099’s Interest statements for savings and checking accounts
Property taxes and house interest
Charity contribution receipts
Medical receipts (please keep in mind you must have more than 7.5% of your income in costs before they will be deductible)
License plate fees
Daycare costs
High-deductible insurance forms and information
Call if you are unsure of anything on this list or have anything you think may be needed.
Please feel free to contact us if you have any questions or concerns. You can reach us at the office number 616-805-0692 or Tammy’s cell phone at 616-260-4488. The sooner you get on the schedule, the more likely you will get the appointment you would prefer.
We are still going to prep taxes at that same location as last year:
2978 Sunrise Ave.
Holland, MI 49424
Best Regards,
Tammy & Dawn
